Top Three Things to Avoid While Using an Automatic Transmission Automobile

Do you have an automatic transmission automobile, or are you planning to own one? If so, you need to learn how to use it correctly for better performance and longevity. Due to their comfort, ease of use and safety, automatic transmission vehicles are the best-selling type of automobile all-round the world. However, if you don't take the utmost care of your vehicle, the chances of having an engine or gearbox failure are pretty high. Therefore, you need to be aware of simple routines that will damage your vehicle. Below are routines that you need to avoid to keep your vehicle in a perfect condition.

1. Driving in Neutral Mode

You may be advised or tempted to use the neutral gear while going down a slope to save on gas consumption. This will not only endanger your life but will also damage your vehicle. Engaging the neutral gear while the car is in motion cuts the oil supply to the engine, which increases its wear and tear.  Also, you may be tempted to switch to neutral gear mode while in traffic to save on fuel, while your engine is still on. This doesn't help you in any way but just damages your engine transmission system. Therefore, why save on gas money only to buy a new engine in the near future?

2. Changing the Gear While the Vehicle is Moving

An automatic vehicle is very different to a manual transmission vehicle. Changing gears when your automatic vehicle is still in motion means that you're using your transmission to stop your vehicle, which will have adverse effects on your gearbox. Always use the brakes to put your vehicle to a halt to avoid damage to your gearbox. Therefore, avoid engaging the reverse gear while the vehicle is still moving forward or vice versa. Also, don't switch your car into parking mode before it comes to a complete standstill to avoid wearing of the lock pin.

3. Rev and Launch

In TVs and race events, you'll notice that drivers usually rev their vehicles when still engaged in neutral and immediately shift to drive in an attempt to give their vehicles more power. As a car owner who loves their car, shifting your gear from neutral to drive while revving your engine wears out the transmission band quickly, which is very costly to repair. If you want to dash off quickly, engage the driving gear while one of your feet is still on the brake pedal. Start revving with your other foot and release the brake pedal to zoom off. This is much better than shifting your gears.

Your automatic engine and gearbox are very sensitive parts that require the utmost care for long-term functioning and reliability. Therefore, follow the above tips to keep your vehicle in good condition and don't forget to schedule regular service with your designated reliable mechanic.
